Scholars have studied the trade of the English East India Company in Gujarath# north India and other parts of India like Bengal extensively right from the establishment of its factory in 1612 at Surat but very little light has been thrown on the commercial activities of the Company's factories at Rajapur# Karwar and on the island of Bombay of the 17th century* Therefore* an attempt has been made here to give an account of the factories' trade in Western India of 17th century using the original documents to the maximum extent*
